WHDL Privacy Policy
The Wesleyan Holiness Digital Library (WHDL) is committed to respecting and protecting the privacy of our community. The following discloses our practices for information collection, use, storage, and methods to ensure the security of this data.
This privacy policy applies to WHDL websites, domains, services, applications, and products. It does not apply to third-party websites to which we may provide hyperlinks. The inclusion of links to other websites is not an endorsement or a guarantee of their privacy policy.
For users of the site
Whenever a user visits WHDL certain information is gathered and stored automatically. This information does not generally identify the user personally. Information that is automatically collected and stored when visiting the repository site includes:
- the Internet domain and the IP address from which the repository was accessed
- the type of browser and operating system
- date and time
- pages visited.
This automatically-collected information is only used internally for technical troubleshooting, to improve the usability of our website, and to record aggregate statistics. Information and data obtained by WHDL in support of assessment of services, collections, resources, etc., or in support of research related to repository services, are considered confidential and will not be shared except in aggregations or with the express permission of participants, to protect privacy.
For content contributors
It is WHDL’s general policy, in consultation with depositing institutions, to remove access to works or portions of works when significant personally identifiable information is exposed that creates a cause for concern (e.g., Social Security numbers of living individuals). Additionally, WHDL collects information from content contributors such as name, dates of birth and death, and institutional affiliation. This is standard library metadata practice and as such, this information will not be used for purposes other than identifying the creator of the content.
Information sharing
WHDL will never sell or rent personal data to third parties. WHDL shares data with Google Analytics to obtain insight into how visitors use its websites. For privacy reasons, only aggregated statistical data is gathered by Google Analytics, and it does not include individual IP addresses or other individually identifiable information.
