This study is a study of the English reading comprehension of the selected pastors of Metro Manila District (MMD) Church of the Nazarene and their preaching tasks. There are 33 respondents in the study who arc the pastors of MMD Church of the Nazarene. The English reading comprehension skill of the pastors was assessed to determine the deviant cases for the process of Analytic induction. Analytic Induction is the methodology of the study to solve the statement of the problem: What can be learned about the English reading comprehension of the selected pastors of Metro Manila District Church of the Nazarene and their preaching tasks. This research was a combination of quantitative and descriptive approaches. Quantitative approach was used to assess the level of the pastors English reading comprehension and qualitative approach was used to assess the sermon preparation of the pastors. In terms of two hypotheses of the study, both hypotheses were reformulated. The first hypothesis states that, "Poor English reading comprehension skills will result in poorer practice of two skills that are a part of the preaching task, namely biblical exegesis, and sermon preparation in the sample group." was revised to "Poor English reading comprehension skills will result in poorer practice of two skills that are a part of the preaching task, namely biblical exegesis, and sermon preparation in the sample group, unless the pastor will spend more time in the sermon preparation and biblical exegesis." The basis of the reformulation was because there was another factor that strongly influence sermon preparation of the pastors between the score of their English reading comprehension test to the score of the pastors' sermon manuscript in connection with how they handle their sermon preparation. The second hypothesis of this study which says, "Better English reading comprehension skills will result in better practice of the same two preaching skills in the sample group." was reformulated to "Better English reading comprehension skills will result in better practice of the same two preaching skills in the sample group, but a lesser number of hours spent by the pastors in sermon preparation and biblical exegesis will result in poorer sermons." It was reformulated through the analysis of the analytic induction process that excluded the deviant case "respondent 102" who got high a score in reading comprehension test but has the lowest score in sermon preparation. The factor that the data presented is the time that the respondent spent in sermon preparation. The following recommendations are identified both for Metro Manila District Church of the Nazarene and for further studies. For reading comprehension, the district should conduct training about English language and the sub-skill needed to improve their comprehension skill, and also encourage their pastors to read books for learning and enhancing. For preaching, the district should have trainings on sermon delivery and communication and technology as an aid for communication and presentation. The district also need to strengthen the pastors' expertise on biblical exegesis and interpretation of the biblical text. For future studies, the researcher need to consider the place where the administration of the questionnaires will be held and removed some of the questions in the survey and interview questionnaires that do not answer the problem statement of the study. For the producers of books and references in second language context, the pastors need commentaries, materials, references, and books with L2 context and also Tagalog books for the pastors to use in their sermon preparation.
