The College Men Four. A unique name. A unique group. This is not to say that they are unlike all other male quartets. In fact, most people who hear them sing go away asking, "Haven't we heard them some place before?" You see, their sound is the sound of many kinds of quartets-- Southern gospel, barbershop, contemporary, serious sacred, a cappella. Their versatility makes them instantly enjoyed by nearly everyone. Uniqueness is the word we are after.
The College Men Four follow a great tradition of Bethany Nazarene College quartets. The heritage of the "Collegiate Quartet" at Bethany Nazarene goes back decades. Always the highest selectivity is given to the candidates who try out for this high honor. From the various aspirants come the four whose vocal blend is most highly desired. This group then becomes the official quartet-representative of Bethany Nazarene College for the school year, plus a summer. They appear at churches, civic clubs and organizations, campus activities, and a string of youth camps across the college's educational zone.
You will like "The Men". Each stands as a symbol of the highest ideals which Bethany Nazarene College hopes to develop in its students-- culture, character, and a Christian world-view. Smiling Jim Dillow, a junior Religion major from Chanute, Kansas, sings lead. Serious Doug Grant, junior Music Education major from Dallas, handles the baritone assignment. Folk-buff Steven Langford, a local Oklahoma City product, is a junior Biology major and performs peerlessly in the vocal cellar-- bass. Youngest --but highest in both pitch and centimeters-- is freshman Vince Snowbarger, the "brain" of the group with his major in history, from Overland Park, Kansas.
Now put the record on the turntable. Listen to them sing... Close out all distractions. Tell your friends not to talk while the record is being played. Notice the vocal interpretations. Pay attention to the message-- let it get right through to you. It's a great album, isn't it? And I have a feeling that the more you play it, the more memories you'll store up. Unique? Right! That's spelled, THE COLLEGE MEN FOUR.
